When I was younger, I used to work part-time at a pet store in Canada called Safari. It is a franchised brand.
The attic of the building housed a handful of giant tortoises. Obviously, I can't tell what exact species they were, but they were about as big as a medium-sized dog and almost certainly heavier. I remember feeding them and cleaning up after them.
Being the impressionable teenager I was, I didn't ask many questions.
Now I'm wondering how is this possible? Is it even legal for a Canadian pet store to house giant tortoises? Do people actually buy giant tortoises as pet? Are they keeping them for a zoo?
Not sure if this is the best place to post this question but I'm just curious.
