Background: Female miniature pinscher, approximately 10-11 years old, had her for 9 years. Has had a hacking cough for about 4 years though wasn't necessarily health threatening.
For the past couple of weeks it seems that like my dog's legs have been giving out. Whenever she eats or drinks, she is laying with her legs spread outwards.
I thought it was a weird out-of-the-ordinary habit she picked up at first, but now when she uses the bathroom or walks around in general, she has trouble standing on her legs. Not too long ago I went for a walk and after the walk she collapsed on the ground with her front paws bent in an odd manner.
Other unusual behaviors:
- Drinking an excessive amount of water. My boyfriend told me that whenever he fills up the water bowl (which is a bit of a large size for clarity), she drinks over half of it.
2: Prolonged self-isolation. The living room is a common area where me, my boyfriend, and our other dog spend most of our free time. However my min-pin would stay under our bed in the bedroom for most of the day doing literally nothing but lay there. Even on days when we bring her into the room with us, she would immediately run under the bed and stay there. Just as I'm typing this post, I decided to close the door to the bedroom (we live in a small apartment) so she could spend some time with us. However she was pacing around the living room and forced herself behind our couch.
I'm worried that this is a sign of a serious illness, or worse, passing on. Any advice would be appreciated.
