I was looking for a slightly stronger flea medicine for my small breed dog (I have always used mid-range topicals). My vet promptly prescribed Credelio, said to give it with food, and sent me to the check out. That was it.
They gave me a single tablet of the medicine in the blister pack. No warnings of anything to watch for, no discussion of possible side effects, no package insert... nothing.
After I got home, I looked up the medication to find it has a warning that it has been known to cause neurological problems and that as a long acting medicine your dog is pretty much screwed if it does. This vet is well aware that we lost my last dog to seizures, so I'm a few paces past absolutely livid that I wasn't even told to watch for such side effects in a medicine that hasn't even been on the market for as long as my dog has been around.
Now I'm out $25 for one useless (albeit unopened) tablet and am very clearly going to be going at my search for flea medicine alone. I'm too angry and disappointed to look at this rationally at the moment, so I was hoping to ask for advice on bringing this up and asking for a refund without going full Karen.
Honestly, I don't expect that they'll actually refund me. I'm just hoping to make it very clear that I find it completely unacceptable to be given a loose tablet with no consultation or information when it's something the FDA stepped in to issue a warning about. If it was a real enough concern for the FDA, it should have at least been discussed with me since there are so many alternative medications.
