Cat traumatized post canine attack, need advice please

A few days ago, I was about to head to bed when I heard what sounded like a cat fight- I went outside and saw something much bigger than a cat on my cat, Nightwing. I ran over there and it took off. Didn't have my glasses on so I couldn't see if it was a dog or a coyote.

I've never seen any creature that terrified in my life.

It took a few minutes for him to stop howling and hissing at me. I got him inside and he had clear signs of shock- white gums, hyperventilating, huge pupils, rapid heart rate. He tried to walk but immediately fell down and flailed. We took him to a 24 hour vet and later transfered him to an animal hospital. No wounds or fractures, but there was some punctures around his neck.

The vets think the animal shook him and caused a head trauma. He spent approximately 36 hours under obvservation and in oxygen treatment. He's home now but he is still terrified of everything. Any movement or noise causes him to panic and run.

I know he needs time to recover/regain trust, but I'm wondering if there is anything in particular we should do to help him? Anyone dealt with this before?
