Cats - deworming right after spaying?

Context: So there are two kittens that I raised then gave away, and I'm bringing them to be spayed and neutered next week along with mines (reduced price for the four kittens). I go pick them up early in the morning then I drop them at the vet, and I bring them back to their owner in the evening. I want to give them a deworming pill before giving them back as I know the owner doesn't care to do it and this is the only occasion I'll get in a while.

From what I remember from previous cats' surgeries the drugs make them pretty drowsy and they don't want to eat for a while, so I didn't buy pills to mix with food, but a paste that you put in the cat's mouth with a syringe. Is it okay to do this? Won't it mess with their empty stomach or whatnot?

They'll be one week short of 6 months old, if that changes anything.
