We have 3 dogs. A German Shorthaired Pointer, and 2 Chihuahuas. The 2 Chihuhuas are 4 (Lord Tyrion) & 5 (Starlord) years old. Tyrion we got fist and he has been a sweetheart. We decided it would be great if he had a companion since he hungers for so much affection, and being away at work was tough on him. We contacted RescueOne, a local rescue shelter about a Chihuahua puppy they had, And did a trial run. We had him for a week getting used to the household, the family, the other pets including the cats and seeing how we fit in. We absolutely loved him. He was a really sweet dog and our older Chihuahua puppy Tyrion absolutely loved him.
Potty training was a challenge, but for the most part successful or at least as successful as it can be for tiny dogs.
We moved into a new larger home in 2018, and Starlord had issues with peeing and pooping in the house. We tried desperately for months to get him to stop. Mild scoldings and mean voices, putting him immediately outside after showing him his messes. We built a pen for inside, and tried kennel training him. Letting him live in the Kennel, and only letting him out to go outside to go to the bathroom. But we felt like torturers because he never got to come out of the Kennel except to go to the bathroom. So we started letting him out more after a couple weeks, sending him outside almost every hour to do his business and then come in. And still, he could go outside and pee and poop, we would watch him do it. And he would come right inside and piss on the table leg or our comforter or bottom of our bed or somewhere else. We have tried many different treatments for spraying and cleaning, from Clorox spray, vinegar water, Natures Miracle, even Furry Freshness. He keeps pissing everywhere. It’s not even always in the same places. We went so far as to remove all the carpets and have new flooring put in, hoping it would lessen the indoor use and make it easier to clean. If anything, we actually clean up MORE messes than ever before. We are at our wits end. We have always been the people who hated individuals who just got rid of pets because I couldn’t take care of him. But we are increasingly feeling like we don’t have a choice other than to see about finding him a new home. And that breaks our heart because we do love Star Lord. We just don’t know what else to do. Looking for some advice or guidance. He’s a part of our family, but has been causing a lot of aggravation and frustration for almost 2 years now.
