Looking for reassurance for getting my dog neutered. Getting pretty worked up about it

He is 1.5 years old turns 2 in July (Chocolate Lab). My family dog growing up was intact and ended up having issues with his testicles/prostate, so I am set on having this done. But there are a few things contributing to my anxiety. I know I am blowing this out of proportion but I cant help it...

I hate that there is a drop-off time and pick-up time. Its an 8am drop off and 2pm pick-up. Is this normal? I hate the thought of him being locked away in a kennel, ESPECIALLY after waking up from surgery. This is the biggest factor for my anxiety and I wish I could just be with him throughout.

Will it change him? He is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met, no aggression whatsoever, very perky and upbeat. Loves to cuddle. It won't change my love for him, but I do want to know other peoples experiences (temperament, energy, etc...)

Is he going to be upset/traumatized?

Thanks in advance. I know this is a common thing that majority of pet owners go through but I still cant help but get a bit worked up.
