Possible animal hoarding, concerned about pets

TLDR: Came back home from college to 14 birds + 8 cats making life hell( cat piss in every room, bathroom tub/shower and KITCHEN counter) tried reasoning with parents to surrender pets but no luck. Need advice

First post ever on this subreddit and I wanted to vent and possibly get some advice on my living situation.

So I’m a college student and came back to live with my parents and I’m concerned about the pets we have. We have a total of 14 parakeets, 8 cats and 3 dogs in small a 2bed/1 bath house.

I help them care for the pets to the best of my ability( usually away most of the year in college) but let me tell you how bad it is: every room in house WREAKS of cat piss no matter how much we clean, the smell lingers, the cats have PEED on the kitchen counter and in the bathtub/shower MULTIPLE times. The birds are never quiet either and are always dirtying what’s supposed to be the breakfast room that’s converted into the “bird room” with seed droppings etc.

I told my parents multiple times before that having all these animals in a small house isn’t healthy nor right for both us and the animals wellbeing’s but they refuse to give them to people/rescues who can actually care for them(it’s just the 3 of us, all of us doing something full time).

Im always told by my mom that we’re “saving the world...” With the birds she told me they’re “fed right and happy.... they don’t have to starve like out in the wild” even though they’re in an overcrowded cage all the time that needs daily cleaning which I’ve been doing being home but can’t do it all the time. My mom will even complain about the bird mess, saying that what’s supposed to be her craft room will never happen because of the constant mess, to which I advise that I’ll help her as much as I can but it’s best to consider surrendering but she refuses to do so since she “has a heart and actually cares about them”

For the cats, I was told that having this many is what’s “keeping your dad sober cause it’s his form of therapy” even though the cats have permanently altered the housing environment with damaged furniture, having to adjust our lifestyles to accommodate the cats overcrowding

(we have to cover our dinning room table with a fitted sheet after we eat since they’ll jump and pee on any bags or things left on it, my dad wont attend national conferences to help his career because he thinks my mom “won’t take care of all of them right” while he’s gone, we can never have an indoor welcome mat or bath mat since the cat’s will pee on it, we can never leave bags/packages out of our locked bedrooms or they’ll get peed on, all of these have happened before) and the lingering cat pee smell everwhere

I really want to surrender these animals for their own wellbeing but I don’t know how my parents would feel about this. I honestly think there may also be some mental health issues going on with both my parents since It’s so frustrating that they don’t see how damaging this is. Any advice is appreciated on how to approach this+ Thanks for reading all of this!
