Hello, I have a cat who is currently 12 years old and in good health. He and I are very close (I've had him since I was 9 years old - I'm 21 now). I'm on track to move to Japan in a couple of years where I plan to stay for one to two years. I'm fully aware of all of the laws and restrictions having to do with bringing your cat to Japan, but I'm worried whether it would be in his best interest. Assuming he is in good health at the age of 14 and his vet signs off on it, would it be selfish of me to bring him with me to Japan? I'm worried about the stress the flight (he's never been on a plane) and quarantine (which should last half a day in Japan) would cause him. We've never lived apart, and I'm afraid that if I leave him with family he'll become depressed (I know I will) or get sick while I'm gone which would destroy me. I know it's not for a while, but I'm feeling super anxious about it every time I think about my future. Also, he's an anxious, "one person" cat.
TL;DR : Assuming he is in good health and I take all the necessary precautions, would it be selfish of me to bring my 14 year old cat with me to Japan?
