Kinda long, on mobile, and i’m gonna apologize now for grammar mistakes and i also posted this is another subreddit but it’s in a thread made by the mods
This is a reminder that this staying at home life is also a huge shock to your pets. They are use to you being gone during certain times and have their own schedules(like getting up at the same time as you, going to the bathroom at certain times, sleeping, eating, activities, etc). Try to understand that they also need their alone time, like us, and at the time that you are generally gone, don’t try to ‘force’ them to lay/be with you, keep the rooms/crate that they stay in open for them to go back to. They know and understand our schedules and know that this isn’t normal life for us(at least mine know that i should have been back at uni, that my brother should have been to school by now, and that this is a week day and people shouldn’t be here). so they might get irritated or confused or other things just like us.
Try to keep things that you did before being quarantined around the same time, like walks and feeding, because once this is over they’ll have to go back to you being gone and be use to walks and feeding at different times or more frequently than before. It will also help you have a scheduled life and help you not go insane from this! If you are able to work from home keep around the same schedule and do your normal routine, same with online classes(maybe sleep in a little longer, but you get the idea)!! If you find that you have a lot of free time do other activities to occupy that time(new arts and crafts, cooking, reading, cleaning/organizing, working out- DONT FORGET TO EXERCISE FOR YOU AND YOUR PET-, hiking, etc). This again will help you and your pets during this time and after!
Have this as a discussion instead of a vent so others can put there thoughts and share what else we can do to occupy our time. I’d also like to say that I know that not every pet is this way and is happy that you are home and that most are easy to adapt to change, but I feel that people tend to forget that animals have their own lives and that even though we are used to a house with them in it all the time, they aren’t use to us being in the house all the time.
