Hi,
We just recently adopted a dog from our local animal shelter. By recent I mean this passed Monday. Before we adopted her we were told she had been abused by her previous owner, which explained why she is so skittish. She had been making some good strides since moving in with us but today when I went to work my husband told me she was howling really loud. I'm hoping this is part of the adaption period but it breaks my heart to think of her being depressed.
Is there anything I could do to help ease her through this period of change? We do have toys and treats around from our previous dog who passed away from cancer back in December but she didn't seem to want anything to do with those. I will be stopping by the store tomorrow and buying her a bone to chew and maybe a treat toy to see if that helps but any other advice would be appreciated.
