Cat has to stay in for a few days due to injury, how do I get him to use litter box

Hi, my cat picked up an injury a few days ago. He has been to the vet and has been given antibiotics and painkillers.

My only issue is that he normally goes outside to do his business. We have to keep him in for the next few days, so we got him a litter box, but he won't use it. He keeps sitting by the door, trying to get through the cat flap (which he have locked).

He has seen a litter box before when he was small, so he should know what it is there for, but he won't seem to use it.
