(I'm located in Eastern North Carolina!)
Sometime last year, I took in a cat from a former coworker. Thought the cat was spayed. Cat was not spayed. She was pregnant.
She gave birth to seven (very healthy!) kittens. We have only managed to rehome one so far via the local shelter. I had appointments set up to get the all fixed, and have been on the waiting list to surrender to surrender them for the past nine months. Then our house got destroyed by some ungrateful guests.
And then? COVID-19 happened.
I had to push off the appointments, the shelter stopped taking surrenders for the time being, all while I'm already very sickly.
Things were kind of looking like they were going to start looking up for a bit, but. Then..
Then, my father died this past June. I had to go take care of things back up in my home state.
And now everything is just way too much. We're still trying to repair our house, I'm severely immunocompromised, our A/C is broken, I might have COVID-19 (getting checked Thursday). Those kittens from before? The two boys and another then-kitten we took in when they were little are getting neutered and chipped tomorrow. One of the girls just gave birth to four kittens on Sunday. One of the other girls is due any day now. The next appointment coming up after tomorrow isn't until August 5th, and that'll be to get one of the girls spayed (they only had one opening then).
But the currently pregnant cat (Mara) doesn't like other cats. At all. Bloo (the cat who recently gave birth) is perfectly content being buried in a snugglepuddle of her kittens and other cats. That being said, she also has no problem protecting herself and her kittens. The other cats are also very affectionate, and bad with boundaries. I've prevented a lot of fights so far, but it's way more than I can manage.
Almost all the rescues and shelters I've called are not accepting cats or kittens as surrenders or fosters. Most of the others either do not answer or never get back to me. One nonprofit has offered to have me become the goster for the ones we were planning to rehome aftet I pay to get them fixed. That would be just fine if it weren't for the current situation with all the incoming kittens and the already here kittens.
I am SO overwhelmed!! Please let me know if anyone can help!!
