My kitten is bullying my older dog!

Hello, before anyone becomes stern with me- I did do my research! I know there’s a certain way to properly introduce animals to each other. My grandmothers cat passed away during the beginning of covid coming to the US, so we decided to get her a new buddy. Aang is very sweet, but very very active. He’s always playing. We love him though! I have my own dog, who’s named Pete. Pete is around eight years old, he’s very sweet and a huge cuddler. He prefers the company of humans rather than dogs. But he gets along really well with our family cat and dog. I love to go over to my grandmas and normally my dog comes with me. We decided to put one animal in one room with a door in between. We also gave the kitten one of Pete’s toys so he’d recognize the smell. We then went from separate rooms to being separated by a glass wall. They both saw and checked each other out. Perfectly fine, right? Well we decided to let them in the same room today...and it was a mess. Aang kept chasing Pete, and trying to grab him and nip him. We separated them and they both calmed down. I don’t understand! I did what so many people have succeeded with- but once there wasn’t a barrier in between them everything went downhill. Any tips? The kitten was being a bully lol. Poor Pete was confused why this kitten wasn’t leaving him be like our cat. Did anything else struggle with having pets getting used to each other? I feel lost.
