Need help: 6 week old kitten+fleas!

We very recently adopted a sweet kitten from the shelter, and when we brought her home, my mom said we needed to give her a bath. Turns out that when we did, she had SO many fleas that the water turned brown. After picking as many as we could off of her, she seemed a lot more lively and wanting to play/eat.

We’re on day 4, and she’s still scratching around her head/neck/ears. I’ll find the occasional flea or flea dirt on her(found a live one on my bed!) but I want to get rid of this problem for good. We can’t wait several more weeks for her to be age appropriate for commercial flea treatment. She’s six weeks old, even though the shelter said she was eight.

I ordered a carpet deodorizer and the Vet’s Best home spray that supposedly kills fleas at all stages, and I’m hoping that works for my room where she was on days 1-3.

Currently she’s being kept in a dog corral downstairs on our tile floor, and it makes finding the dead ones a lot easier to see after her second flea bath yesterday. I’m attached to her and would love to cuddle her more, but I’m at my wits end about the flea thing and want them eradicated, especially before they can get to our other cats.

Any advice is warmly welcomed.

Also for those who have used the Vet’s Best Spray: I accidentally ordered the one for home and dog, but I don’t intend on using it directly on her, just in the corral she’s in(with her somewhere else while I’m treating it). Will she get sick from inhaling the smell of peppermint/clove oil after it has dried?
