Outdoor cat mother clashes with her independent kitten

I have an issue with 2 cats, several weeks ago a cat appeared around our house, she gave birth to kittens, so we started feeding her and ever since she just hangs around outside of our house in the front yard, the problem is that now her grown kitten ( I assume the kitten is around 6-8 weeks old) started coming to our yard for food too, basically they both are coming for food, and every time the mother sees her offspring she beats the heck out of her, both the mother and the kitten are scardey cats, very alert and afraid of people, the kitten is even worse she's scared of literally anything, the mother is more trusting towards me by now, but the kitten isn't so I am trying to build a bond,

the problem is that the mother makes it extremely difficult for me to feed the kitten or build any sort of relationship because every time the mother sees the her offspring she beats her, which makes me very worried about the kitten's safety

what can I do about this issue? I can't adopt one of them, and I don't want to neglect/chase away one of them either, I'm guessing them living in harmony together will not happen, but I do want to further feed the little kitten and create trust, I know it's possible because I see progress already, but the mother makes it very difficult to progress, and I'm really worried about the constant beatings the kitten takes by her mother every time she tries to come to me for food, and on top of that the mother just chases her away which makes it harder for me to feed her or get close to her.

any help would be appreciated!
