My cat has had mild seizures for years. They stay mostly in her face and she starts twitching for about 10-20 seconds and then stops. Recently they started to impact her balance and she would start to fall off furniture while having a seizure. I contacted my vet and she started my cat on phenobarbital. Ever since my cat can barely walk. She moves like she's drunk and walks into things. I know impaired coordination and lethargy are side effects but I'm absolutely scared she will hurt herself. She took quite a tumble down the stairs today which terrified me. Does anyone know how long it takes for these symptoms to clear up? I don't want to take her off the medication, but I also don't want her falling down stairs and getting seriously injured at night. I'll be calling my vet tomorrow to let her know.
My entire family is also absolutely against giving her any medication at all. My mother would rather she have seizures than treat them so I'm under a lot of pressure to take her off the medication.
My kitty also knows something is going on and she does not like it. She's incredibly sweet and puts up with it like the champ she is, but it's absolutely heartbreaking to see her in this state.
