Went to go refeed my mother's cat while she is at her cabin, cat was locked in the room. Help?

Hello everyone,

My mother has been gone to her cabin since Thursday. She called me yesterday and asked if I could drive to her place (an hour away) to check on things and make sure the cat had enough food and water, to which I obviously had no problem with.

I went there today and I couldn't find the cat anywhere and I heard loud meowing. Went upstairs and it turns out the cat was locked in my mother's room. The issue is that I did not know for how long. I called my mother to explain and she was very, very upset.

The cat appears to be fine. There was poop on the ground upon entering. Checked his gums, they appeared to be not dry and he was coherent and rubbed up against me.

I took him downstairs and he did not want to drink water at all. Gave him food (his automatic dish was empty) and he took a little bit.

I'm a little unsure of what to do here as I do not know how long the cat has been locked in the room for, neither does my mother. There was a small slit in the window and we are guessing the wind may of blown the door shut?

There's no way a cat could stay in a room without food or water for five days a be fine, is there?
