I am very excited to be adopting for the first time! It turns out my new cat is being fostered in the south and will be transported north. I'm not totally sure what to expect during pick-up and would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this before. I tried searching the internet, but it appears my question is too specific.
With a dog, it seems straight-forward. They let them out of the transport. They're on a leash. You maybe go for a little walk and play a bit, then head home. But you don't just "let cats out." Will we need to transfer her from the carrier in the transport to a carrier that I bring? Any recommendations for small bonding before we just stick her in another vehicle to bring her home? And, though I've lived with cats in the past, any recommendations for acclimating her once we get home? I'm planning to start her in one room, rather than giving her reign of the whole house right away. Is that the right thing to do?
Thank you for any advice!
