Cat Smell In Apartment Advice?

Today my landlord came by (I believe he was on the property because of work being done to prepare the apartment above mine for new rents) and said that outside my apartment door it smelled like a litter box. I've lived here for two years, never been reported by anyone for anything, so I was surprised and naturally embarrassed. I take things seriously so I have already taken the following measures:

  1. Tossed both litter boxes and purchased new ones. I have two cats; unfortunately I have only a single bedroom apartment which is smaller than my previous place of residence so I keep my two boxes in my room. My bedroom is actually the furthest point away from the front door.
  2. Used an Arm & Hammer deodorizer and vacuumed all carpeting.
  3. Purchased an air purifier. I have it currently in my bedroom where the litter boxes are. Again, I would be surprised if that were the source of the smell, as I scoop diligently, but the air in that room does not circulate, and my older cat of 8 years (got her when she was one from a shelter) will not cover her litter for whatever reason. Unfortunately when she poos, I smell it due to that. Sometimes I go in and scoop some litter over it.
  4. This is a superfluous thing that won't do much in the way of genuine change I suspect, but I now have both of my air fresheners plugged in by the front door and living room.

The most obvious cause of this could of course be one of my cats peeing somewhere. I have caught my oldest peeing on clothes if left in my bedroom on the floor; since that happened over a year ago I simply make sure clothes don't hit the floor and I added a litter box thinking maybe that would help. She's never had any issues with her health, and by all accounts other then never covering her poos is an excellent cat. I suppose she could have gone somewhere in the living room, but that would truly, truly shock me as I am home quite often (especially given this year's events) and with her all day save for when I work (6-8 hours three days a week, and then it fluctuates on the others). I intend to get a black light and survey the area by the front door in particular, then the rest of the living room and move on back toward my bedroom.

Is there anything else I can do to combat this? I'm just really nervous as I'm a good tenant, and I really love my two cats a lot.
