So, I went to pick up cat food at the pet store and while I was inside I met 2 bonded kittens. They are 7 month old twin sisters and they’re up for adoption. They were surrendered by their owner and MUST be adopted together. Apparently they basically scream to the point of vomiting if they’re separated. After maybe 15 minutes of playing and snuggling I put them back in their cage.
I wanted to adopt them on the spot but I went home and decided I’m going to sleep on it for a few days.
I already have a cat. She’s 1.5 years old, very sweet and also timid. Me and my girlfriend adopted her when she was 8 weeks old. She’s never had any interactions with other animals so I worry about introducing a bonded pair of kittens to her. If I do decide to adopt them, will 2 new cats be overwhelming for her? Will they try to take over her space? I’d hate to bring in two kittens if it creates a rift between me and my cat or affects her emotional well-being. Should I even attempt to bring these cats in? Or should I hope they go to a family that won’t separate them? Any tips or tricks for introductions?I’ve only ever introduced rabbits (very successfully) and I’m not sure if it would be a similar process.
