Need help with an older dog and a new kitten

I have a 10 year old small dog who pees on the floor. I came into his life when he was 6 (as he belongs to my girlfriend) when he was very untrained and would snap at people all time (when they tried to move him while he was sleeping, taking away garbage, etc.) which after working with her we have been able to mostly nip that issue, however, where I have been stuck is how to kill his habit of peeing on the floor. I am positive this is done in retaliation as we often can let him out to go pee 6-10 times a day even though he can easily go an entire day just going pee in the morning and at night when he is in a good mood. However, if he gets in trouble for something (eating garbage, barking, etc.) or if I tell him to go lie down I will find pee somewhere in the house or if he ever can get access to a room he is not allowed in he will pee in there.

Even though this has been a major issue we have been trying our best to encourage him when he goes outside and reprimand him when he pees in the house. He's very smart, and he knows he isn't supposed to so I can never catch him in the act which makes it harder.

Everything has recently blown up as we just got a new kitten. When we first got her she stayed in our laundry room where we took care of her. Since she was very young and we wanted to slowly introduce the pets so they can get used to each other (he tends to like cats a lot but not dogs, so we thought that having a cat might be good for him to have a playmate), our dog wasn't allowed in the laundry room for a while. Since the laundry room has opened up (her litter box is in there) he has been peeing there and elsewhere in the house nonstop 4+ times a day. It is at the point where we just threw a diaper on him which seems to have "magically" stopped the need to go every hour (for example he's peed about 2-3 times today)

The bigger issue came about today when I was cleaning and picked up my backpack from under my desk as it was my last day this semester and it absolutely reeked to the point where I couldn't tell if it was actually dog pee. Later on in the day I came into my room where my girlfriend had some clothes on the bed that she was about to put away and the kitten was just sitting on it when I went to pick her up she started to pee on me while I was holding her. I don't know if I just picked her up wrong and pushed on her bladder or if she was planning on peeing in the clothes but it makes me start to think the backpack was her doing. I don't know if this is something she could be learning from my dog peeing everywhere or if its because it can be more difficult to get to her litter box as that's the area the dog is currently peeing making things too hard for her. As I was just about to post this we just found a towel that smells like cat pee so it looks like she might be starting to get a bad habit,

I am going to try and replace her litter with a new kind and take the lid off as I read that can help, and maybe add a second litter box in another area to make it more accessible. I will be keeping the diaper on the dog until I can figure out what to do. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it as I am at a total loss at this point; should I be worried that she could pick up behavioral issues from my dog?
