Concerned about my dog’s paw

I noticed that my dog has been licking one of his back paws a lot lately, and I’m worried that he might have something stuck in it. We only recently rehomed him a few months ago, and pet ownership is a new experience for me and my wife. He has not been limping, but he has not been wanting to walk very far on his walks lately, and will dig his feet into the ground to indicate that he wants to turn back home. I’m not sure if that is related to his paw licking. I can’t get a close look to figure out what is wrong, because he will try to bite me when I try to look at his paw. I tried making a vet appointment but the next appointment isn’t for nearly 3 weeks... it is also possible that his paw was nicked after going to the groomers last week, and there was shattered glass around the corner from our apartment that I’m worried he may have gotten wedged in his foot (we do avoid it on our walks but he has stepped on it a couple of times). Do I need to press for an earlier appointment at the vet or take him to an emergency vet...? I don’t want him to get an infection and this is all so new for me.
