Hi reddit. Sorry for the formatting, I'm on mobile.
I have a rescue American Eskimo named June that we approximate at 11-12 years old. She is very quirky, and has a personality I have never seen in a dog before. My fiancé and I got her about 4 years ago, and since the start of the pandemic, we started to notice some changes with her. June would normally go to work with my fiancé every day, and now she's lucky to go out once a month (without any customers in the building). Summer of 2019 we took her in for a mass removal near her rectum, she kept chewing at it and causing it to bleed. While she was sedated they removed 5 warts and sent her home. June has had some health issues since then, seemingly unrelated. She started urinating and defecating in the house, when she could wait 4 hours until I was home. She also vomits when she is stressed, and because she is deaf and going blind, she is ALWAYS stressed. We've been under he impression that this is the process of her aging and it's normal. But just a few months after the warts were removed, they came back in the same spots with a second growth right next to them. She chews and licks these, especially the ones on her forelegs, and now she has a growth on her right eyelid and one above her left eye. We still assumed June is an old dog and old dogs get warts. A few months ago, I noticed the mass we removed is back to the original size with another forming right next to it. I work 45-50hrs so I have no idea when it grew back. And I think my fiancé is afraid to confront her mortality, so I end up doing most of her care anyways. I had been telling him for months that she had a UTI, and I had to schedule the appointment for her to be seen. At the appointment, June was nipping at the vet (she never does this except when I brush her) any time she tried to examine her. I told this to the vet, along with the growths coming back along with some new ones, her extreme anxiety, and new symptoms of the growths leaking clear fluid, lethargy, cough (dry like something is tickling her throat), decreased appetite, etc. The vet was not as attentive as I hoped and only addressed the UTI. They did take an x-ray and confirmed her lungs are more calcified than her last xray and sent us on our way with some antibiotics.
I'm concerned that this isn't just warts but squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and it's metastasized to her lungs. Should I go to a different vet and get a second opinion? Any thoughts or advice from owners who had pets with SCC? I don't have a lot of funds but I want to make sure my girl isn't hurting. It's difficult to tell when she jumps away from me for just looking at her... Thanks
