I took my cat to the vet not long ago for unrelated treatment, and they recommended I have her teeth looked at. I did so today, and got a quote for ~£600 to remove ~5 of her teeth. I've never really brushed her teeth as she has some form of PTSD from her life before me (she's a rescue) and freaks out if she is held in place. I can just about pick her up without her going nuts after 5 years of adoption.

The bill stings (my insurance doesn't cover dental work), but mostly I feel like a total idiot to have let her get to the position where she has to have around 15 percent of her teeth removed. I haven't been regular enough with her vet visits (i only take her if there's a problem) and generally just feel like someone who has a vanity pet. I've failed in my duty of care for her. I am going to be better from now on, so don't worry about that. The vet even seemed to be annoyed/stern, so I feel like all this is probably mirrored in her opinion of me.

Anyway, has anyone had their pet have several teeth removed, and how was their life afterwards? Does she need to be long-term switched to wet food exclusively? Can I still give her meat?
