This is more of a 'get it off my chest post' I think....
We recently got 6 baby chicks over Christmas. Was a project of mine to build a Chicken enclosure and I got chicks so my son could experience having baby chicks like I did. So we are keeping them inside until they are big enough to move into their outside home.
I knew from the beginning we had to be extra careful with their protection as I knew our dog (Shiba 3yoa) would be a menace. We took every precaution and she was persistent in the beginning and would yelp and moan at the baby gate a few rooms from where the chicks were kept for the first day or so then seemed to lose interest.
Today however (4 or so days since we've had them) she squeezed herself through a gap in the front gate of our front porch (which to our knowledge she has never done before) snuck in through an open door and in the space of about a minute killed two chicks.
Like I know I cant blame anyone/thing but myself for not taking the extra precaution. But I just cant get over that she took such a premeditated approach to sneak into the house a way she never has before to kill our other pets. It's not like we left them out in the open and she came across them by accident.
I was so mad at her in the aftermath to the point where I feel guilty now (no I didnt strike her). But I cant even look at her right now... Feel pretty crappy.
