Is it ok to not slowly acclimate cats?

On most cat owner guides that I've been reading, it seems like slowly introducing your cat to your house with a safe room is a good idea. You let them get used to the one room, then slowly introduce them to the rest of the house. However, my house simply doesn't have the number of rooms required to do this. Every room either has someone sleeping in it, or is under fairly common use (i.e. bathroom, living room). Is it ok to not do the acclimation phase? Does it depend on the age of the cat?
