My dog Rose was on a long time diet of cooked chicken and pork ( not many other meats available where I live ) She then developed a skin allergy problem ( red skin ) The vet recommended that I only feed Rose on Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry dog food. After 3 months of eating only the Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry dog food , Rose red skin areas seems to be a bit less red. The vet has now recommended that Rose stays on the Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry dog food for ‘’ the rest of her life ‘’ .
The Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry dog food contains chicken fat and is very expensive ,
Due to the high cost of the Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry dog food , I am thinking about discontinuing it and replacing it with a home made recipe of some thing like this ….
-
Cooked ( steamed ) white Fish ( meat only no bones )
-
Steamed mixed vegetables .
No treats or other types food to be given , to see how things progress .
My concern about the above home made diet is the fact that it may not contain enough protein or vitamins.
I am wondering if any one here also feeds their dog a similar home made diet as shown above or can recommend altering the diets ingredients to suite a dog with a skin allergy problem.
I am also looking at the BARF diet option .
Thanks
.
