My first post here, so hello! I have a very broken-hearted parakeet who won't eat or drink, so I wanted to come for advice here. He was in a bonded pair with another male budgie who sadly passed about a week ago. Ever since then, my one remaining budgie has been quiet and doesn't seem to want to interact with me no matter how hard I try to let him out of the cage, give him treats, etc. He's a very social bird and I'd like to get him another friend, since I don't like keeping parakeets on their own.
My question is, is it likely he will reject or even attack a new bird if I introduce one in the next few days? Is it too soon, or would it be cruel to let my bird be alone for longer when he clearly is miserable? I know parakeets do grieve, and I'm worried about disrupting that grieving process rather than helping him, but he hasn't been acting like himself at all, and I don't want him to he so lonely. Has anyone been in this situation before? I'd appreciate any advice on next steps. Thank you
