A few days ago I noticed that this chick was laying around alot and rarely opening her eyes. They now seem to be sealed shut by mucus or something, making it nearly impossible for her to open her eyes. She also writhes her neck around while standing still as if struggling to breathe.
The chicken breeder who sold her to us suggested that we use a cotton ball to gently rub salt water in her eyes to clear the gunk, but that just seems to irritate her and cause her to scratch her eyes.
We have also started her on antibiotics today in hopes of her health turning around but I'm not sure if it's going to be enough...
We have had problems with this chick in the past. A few weeks ago she contracted coccidiosis and we have been treating her with amprolium. She seemed to improve after around a week or two and was fine up until a few days ago.
Any help on what to do is appreciated, I just want her to be ok.
