Guys don’t impulse buy a cat. Me and my husband lived with cats for 3 years and also baby sat my sisters cat. We missed living with one so me and my husband went on Kijiji and her previous owners were giving her away for free so we went and got her. I have made a post on here before about her going crazy when she eats temptations treats. And even tho that has helped a bit she is still being very hyper and I’m honestly at my wits end as we tired and don’t know what we’re doing wrong. Me and my husband have her on a play schedule where when she’s awake we will play with her at minimum 6 times a day for at least 20 mins each time. She has a ton of toys and even though we’re always playing with her she still pouches, hugs and bites our legs, feet and hands. We only ever use toys to play with her and never our hands because I do not want a cat that bites. We also saw a video on calming down kittens which is to play with them and let them chase the toy then to let them catch and “kill the toy” then to give them food and their response should be to the groom and go lay down... even tho this does work sometimes and has been a life saver she will still go for us even after a nice play and eat session. (Note: I just hand feed her a few kibbles from her bowl so don’t worry I’m not just feeding her during play) I don’t know what to do.. I tried the spay bottle with water and even tho she doesn’t like it she now has the habit to pounce scratch, bite and run before I even get time to spay her. I also read to get another kitten as it helps but my husband absolutely does not want another cat as we only live in a 530 square foot apartment and he’s already finds that having 2 kittens pouching on his computer and trying to go for the blinds is too much. So what am I doing wrong? Is this a behaviour she will grow out of? Will Spaying her help her calm down as well (she does have her first vet appointment next week but they cannot spay her that appointment and I had just to check her was a 3 week wait due to covid) any advice helps :)
Side note: Also I got in touch with her previous owners who when we first got her told us she needed to be re-homed because she’s getting too big (her dad is a Maine coon and her mom a calico) but after talking to them about her behaviour they admitted to me that they needed to re-home her because she was too rough with their kids. They also told me that she has been re-homed 3 times and has never stayed more then 2 months in a home.
