I've been thinking about getting a bird, and I've been stuck between two species: The Parakeet/Budgie and the cockatiel.
I want a bird that will be very affectionate and that I can train. Talking would be nice but it's not required.
I'm out of the house about 9 hours on weekdays and usually home all day on weekends.
I need a bird where the bird itself would be $75 or less. I can provide minimal veterinary care. It will likely end up sharing a cage or living in the same household with a parakeet.
