Russian Blue cat just stares at me?

Hi! I have had cats all my life of all sorts of breeds, but Smokey is my first Russian Blue. I know all cats are different and individuals, but I tended to find generally similar behaviors in most of my cats. I have never had a cat do what he does.

Smokey will sit straight up on the floor beside my bed and just stare at me with huge, round eyes. He will give a random cat kiss here and there but it’s mostly just this wide-eyed, unblinking stare. He doesn’t react if I talk to him like he normally does and doesn’t meow at me. He eats during the day, so it’s not him trying to get me to feed him and he pounces on me when he wants to play, so it’s not that.

When he first came to live with me, I researched a little about Russian Blues to see if they were a breed with any kind of special care needs (he’s a stray who just walked into my apartment last winter and wouldn’t leave hence the research after he came) and just to learn more about him because I had never actually seen or interacted with one in person. I read that they tend to be pretty watchful, but haven’t seen anything about just staring. I know there’s a breed of working dog that was bred basically to stare at stuff so they’ll often stare at their owners, but I haven’t personally been able to find anything about Blues being bred as working cats.

I was just wondering if anyone who has a Russian Blue has had experience with them just staring at you for extended periods of time for seemingly no reason. I’m not concerned or anything, just curious cause it’s such a silly behavior I haven’t seen in any of my cats before.
