Firstly, I’ve always grown up with pets and around people who have pets, all of whom were fixed, so I know I shouldn’t worry too much, but these are the first pets I’ve cared for personally, and I’ve never done two operations at once. We have opposite sex sibling kittens who will be 5 months when they are scheduled to be fixed. They are best friends and wrestle and play and cuddle perfectly. Little angels! They are maturing quickly so our vet recommended we do it soon so as not to risk impregnation. Our family vet who we trust says it should be fine to have them fixed at the same time, and we figure it should be good to have them recovering together and mellow at the same time. We “kennel” them at night, which sounds crazy but their house is over 5” tall, 3” deep with multiple levels and bed, food, water, toys, and litter, and they always go in there without us putting them in at night and just cuddle all night. (I am not a good sleeper and they get into everything when they’re up, so it’s fortunate that they’re genuinely happy in there, I even have a webcam that I look at from the bedroom a couple times throughout the night to make sure they’re comfortable without disturbing them). And for anyone asking, no that will not be permanent! When they grow and mellow some they will have free reign if they choose, but they really love it and choose it at night anyway. With ALL that said, I guess my questions are: What should I expect? What challenges should I look out for? How do I make it easier for them? Are there any products or particular cones or something that might help the process?
I don’t think we will be changing their sleeping arrangement but I do thank you in advance for any advice!
