We have a lab (7F) who is very smart and very motivated to lick and chew on a healing wound on her arm. She had surgery way back in November and after the stitches came out she destroyed the spot where the stitches were and ever since then we can't keep a cone on her long enough to let the wound actually heal. We've tried many different kinds of cones and bandage materials. The plastic cones she will smash on the ground until it cracks and eventually breaks into pieces and with the inflatable donut ones she's able to stick her arm up into it and lick/chew at it that way. The max amount of time we've been able to keep her away from the wound was 5 days and that wasn't long enough for it to heal completely and she immediately destroyed the scab. Every time we get a new cone she just learns a new trick to get out of it and she's been able to tear through any bandage material we've used as well. I've spoken with the vet many times and she's being as helpful as possible but at this point we're all out of ideas and I'm hoping crowdsourcing might give us something useful.
