So I've had a kitten for about 9 months so far. Over time she's picked up a habit that is causing my roommate and me a good amount of stress. Whenever she wants our attention she likes to scratch at the wall or at some of our office cables. She has only shown to do this when she knows we're in the room and it will get us to pay attention to her. We play with her daily and give her plenty of attention, but clearly, it is not enough to satisfy her, so take that as you will.
So I figure I'm down to two options really:
- Become much more strict with her behavior, this would involve getting some sort of adhesive or otherwise deterrents for the walls and cables to try and prevent her from scratching the walls, which I'm honestly against as our apartment has rather strict policies on what can and can't be on walls and adhesives are pretty clearly defined as something that could cost our deposit. Of course, if I went this route I would try to increase my time with her a day and hope that this would end the problematic behavior.
- When we originally moved in we had intended to get two cats, but due to my roommate's financial situation and how my kitten had no other littermates to be adopted, we decided against getting a second cat at the time. Now that things have settled down either my roommate or I could get an additional cat and hope this provides the additional attention/playmate for her. I know this is very much not a sure thing as not all cats go well together, we'd of course follow the steps of the slow introduction to try and lessen the chance of this.
These are what I'm currently looking at for options, if you have any further advice for me please let me know.
