I'm not a chinchilla owner but I've taken a recent interest in portraying them in a creative project. After learning how dangerous water is to them, something I wondered is if they are technically capable of swimming (ignoring the long term consequences of soaked fur). Most rodents are able to swim decently but I don't know if their thick fur might make it difficult for them to stay afloat. I want my depiction to be as accurate as possible so I'd appreciate any information you have. Thank you.
