Best way to move with a dog and three cats

I will be moving to another state next month with a 80+lb dog and 3 cats. The drive is about 9.5 hours, more than likely 11+ with stops. I work at a vet hospital and plan to have plenty of mild sedative medication on board for everyone for the trip and day after.

My main issue is whether or not to keep the cats in individual, small carriers or to put all of them into one of those small pop-up covered play pens. The latter gives me the option to keep a litterbox and some wet food available (for water intake), which is important for one of my cats with urinary issues.

I haven't had to move this great of a distance with them before and want them to be as comfortable as possible. Any advice is appreciated.
