Blocking off gas heater from a cat ideas??

So, I'm renting a small older house with a gas wall heater/furnace. Now, whoever installed it probably didn't do it completely right, or at least didn't keep pets or children in mind. It sits about 5-6 inches off the ground. Whereas any pictures I've seen of similar units are normally flush to the floor, or close to it. I got a cat two weeks ago, and as great as her getting to know the space is she's recently taken to trying to stick her head up under the furnace. The pilot light is active and it does light up when the thermostat tells it to. Which is what makes her doing that so terrifying, it could pop on and scare her and you guys know how cats are when they panic. What should I put around the bottom to keep her from doing this??

Hopefully this link works but this is an example of similar unit I'm talking about https://www.ecomfort.com/Williams-2509822/p67974.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAvbiBBhD-ARIsAGM48bxHthOZEzCRDnrf8Ktm8_PgE9xMcEJkZ9criqxiBtCW-4cgnWmRcGMaAnjcEALw_wcB

Tl;dr -cat is sticking her head up and underneath gas furnace on the wall, what can I use to keep her out of it?
