Let me preface by saying that this is the first time I've owned or taken care of a cat and I do not know what the normal behaviour of cats on catnip is. I read that it will get them out of their shell and they'll be a bit more playful. But my cat, frosty went apeshit after taking one whiff of the stuff. She kept rolling around and jerked her head a lot. She kept trying to lick my hand even after I already washed it and continued to sniff the area where I gave the catnip for almost half an hour. At night she climbed the shelf where the catnip was kept and tried to open the bag, which is very unlike her. She's normally very shy and timid, doesn't play with any toys and barely uses the cat tree. I've only had her for a week she's slowly becoming more comfortable with us, but this was a drastic change. She's now back to normal but I'm not sure if I should keep giving the catnip. Is what she did considered normal behaviour and will it have any lasting effects? I also bought catnip flavoured temptations and I'm debating whether I should give it to her or not.
