Cat keeps hissing at me 2 months later :(

Hi to all,

I have a question about our cat. About 2 months ago we adopted a 16 week old kitten the shelter warned us hes a bit wild and would be hard to get him to like us.

The process:

We put him in a small room spend 3 4 hours a day minimum with him getting him used to us petting him and feeding him

He always hissed at us entering the room or getting near him

2 months down the line he comes to us hes free roaming around the house but he never meows and always hisses at us when we try to get near but he is ok with us petting him playing with him and everything

He comes on his own all the time and jumps on the couch next to us but if we try and go to him and pet him he will hiss at us and run away or stay and grt petted still

Im confused with this cat

Shall i keep.doing what im.doin and eventually he will be better or shall i change anything to help the process ?
