Dog bit our son for the second time in 3 days. What can I do?

Our Border Collie turned 2 years this week. He’s a hyper at times, friendly but overall a docile dog. On Tuesday, our 7 year old son went to hug the dog while laying down (something he does often since they also cuddle together) and accidentally kneed him in his testicles (I assume). The dog yelped, bit my son and ran to the other side of the room. I witnessed the whole thing. He did not break skin. We limited our interactions with the dog for the rest of the day and most of yesterday. He did show love toward all of us and feeling bad, we allowed him to roam freely again. Tonight, our son was walking to the kitchen to get a drink and Otis (our dog) was laying down. My son stepped on his foot and the dog yelped the lounged at my son and bit him in the upper thigh near his bottom. He didn’t break skin this time either, but I view him as a danger and no longer want him in the house.

As a matter of fact, I want the dog put down. I know this seems heartless and will upset some of the readers, but my child is my number one priority, always. I don’t feel comfortable letting the dog be rehomed and risking someone else having this or worse happen.

My husband thinks I am jumping the gun because I used to own an aggressive husky that I got from a rescue. I was tricked into adopting her and she bit several people and pets, costed a ton in vet trips and trainers, only to never change. My husband thinks I may be judging our current dog based on the previous dog. I had to make the difficult decision of finding her another home while I was pregnant with my boy. She never did find a forever home because of the aggression. Anyway..... I need some advice. I do care about Otis and he’s very much attached to me, but I fear one of these days he’s going to hurt my son and possibly leave him disfigured. Before anyone asks, we respect the dog, his meal times, his safe place, and when he signals that he wants to be left alone. We’ve worked extremely hard to teach our son to respect the dog.

Giving the current climate, we cannot afford take our dog to training classes. It’s just not within our budget. His insurance does not cover classes either, only medical needs.
