I have a Jack Russell terrier who is 4 year old female. She needs to be socialized more but whenever I take her to the dog park she can be very skiddish and nippy at other dogs. She’s been in training classes with other dogs and the trainer did say that she’s social because the trainer has seen her behavior. She can be reactive and bark a lot at other dogs and strangers when she sees them. I know that for her it just takes time for her to get used to other animals and people. She has lived with other dogs and she is currently living with our cat. I know I should’ve socialized her more when she was a pup but due to finances and being a struggling student, she had to stay at my step dad’s house for 3 years and he doesn’t really train his dogs so she’s picked up some bad habits from them. She was my step dad’s dog originally but in the year 2020 because I bonded with her I decided to take her with me because he was not taking care of her like he should.I’m not sure if I should see a behaviorist to get her behavior corrected or if I should continue to take her to the dog park and let her learn herself? Please lmk your input thank you.
