Getting a Birb?

Before I start, I want to clarify that this isn't happening anytime soon. This is going to maybe be happening in the far future, when I'm on my own with my own house and a steady job.

I like birbs (or birds, I guess). I think they're really cool. I want to get a birb when I'm on my own. But the problem is I don't know a whole lot about birb care. Are there any warnings I should be aware of before getting a birb? Things like upkeep, making sure they're doing alright, etc.? I was thinking about getting a parrot (or similar birb), not because they can talk (that's just an added bonus), but because they have a whole lot of personality and I love it. Are parrots a good idea? Or would there be a better option?
