My cat will not stop rubbing up against my legs even when I try to move, and will end up getting tripped on, shoved, or injured, constantly. How do I stop this?

I want to preface this. I'm almost 33 years old, and I got my first cat when I was 9. She would leg-rub but only when she wanted food, or if I was sitting down and wanted pets.

My first cat had kittens, and we kept two of them. Neither of them expressed leg rubbing behavior unless it was dinner time. One of those kittens would, again, have kittens later on, and again none of those kittens expressed leg rubbing behavior outside of food.

My original cats daughter passed away, having outlived her own daughter, two years ago. We waited a year and found an amazing little grey (russian blue colored, like my previous cat) cat that seemed perfect.

However as she's become comfortable, she has begun leg rubbing. I don't mean a little. I mean you'll be moving at a good stride and she'll get between your legs in such a way that you'll trip right over her (moving fast enough that you actually just go down, or she gets injured; she's been to the vet once because of this, she has no sense of preservation). If you're standing still she's constantly rubbing up against you, at all hours, no matter what you're doing.

No amount of pets will help, and she just gets mad and walks away if you actually do pet her. We've tried modifying how we're petting her, engaging her with toys, changing her food, and to no avail.

She's trying to tell us something, we're sure, but we don't know what. If I'm being honest I had cats for 20 years before I got this cat and I've never encountered such constant, in-the-way, rubbing, grinding, and getting between my legs (she'll even get in front of my legs) while I'm walking.

I'm at my wits end, honestly. I can't live with this. I've never known any cat to be this active about it. None of my prior (5) cats did this, none of my friends cats behave like this (to this extent), and it's driving me up a wall.

Help?

PS: She'll do this constantly but the moment you sit down on the couch and beckon for her to come up, she gives approximately zero shits about you now.
