My new kitten has a flesh eating bacterial infection from a cat scratch

This is NOT medical advice. She has been to multiple vets and she’s going to another one tomorrow. This is more of vent if anything.

She got sick last Friday with a high fever and she stopped eating/drinking. Emergency vet thought it was an intestinal infection and sent her home with antibiotics. She started eating drinking again, but only a little at a time.

By Sunday night she had a patch of missing fur on the underside of her tail. By Monday she had a gaping hole right above her anal canal and an even bigger patch of fur missing on her tail. The vets thought it was an abscess from my other cat scratching or biting her. They took off dead tissue and cleaned the hole out. She got a higher dose of antibiotics and another topical antibiotic that we have to squeeze into the gaping hole on her butt.

She was eating, drinking and demanding attention again so we thought she was getting better. Tonight the skin on her legs came off, the hole got larger and her tail is dying. Emergency vet now is certain she is infected with flesh eating bacteria. We’ve got sprays and drugs to fight off the bacteria until we can get her to her normal vet tomorrow, but her back end is getting eaten alive and it looks like it. It only took 6 hours for her to go from looking kinda normal to her back end looking like a raw skinned chicken with a dead tail. Most likely caused by my other cat scratching or biting her making a mark so small we never saw a mark even with her short white fur.

This is NOT a plea for money. We are hoping tomorrow we can get a clear idea of what treatment will look like and cost. So far we know She’s going to need surgery to remove current dead tissue and more surgeries later as more tissue dies. It looks like the bacteria enjoys skin so we would have to make fake skin for her. She is going to need spraying and bandaging every 12 hours or less and enough antibiotics to cure an elephant. She’s a young kitten so I’m not sure how much she can handle. She has to be locked in the cat room to help keep her clean and safe from my other cat. My other cat is a very large kitten that doesn’t know his size or how to stop. Which is probably why she’s dying.

It’s a lot. She’s only 6 months old and I’m not sure if it’s fair to put her through everything. The bacteria are killing her nerves so the pain is dulled, but no one knows how much. She begs for attention, eats, drinks and purrs the second you pet her, but she’s suffering. Her chance of living right now is questionable. I think the worst part is realizing that my vet fund has been killed by emergency vet fees and normal vet fees before we even got a real diagnosis. Emergency vet is guessing it’s going to be at least about $1500 to fix her. No the vets don’t take CareCredit, I checked. Cash only and they don’t allow payment plans. These rural vets are used to barn cats and work animals. They are very pro euthanasia

Edit: a word
