8-month-old kitten post neutering concerns

Hello everyone,

I have some concerns about my current vet. They've been really pushy with extremely excessive, unneeded, and overpriced treatments, and haven't been transparent with me in the past in terms of prices/ hidden fees and what was really needed for my pet. I'm a student and unfortunately, I don't have disposable income at the moment.

I recently got my 8-month-old kitten neutered and everything is great- he is completely healed and is doing fantastic. The problem is my vet is insisting on him getting another set of shots exactly 2 weeks after his neutering which will cost me a few hundred dollars (very expensive for me).

I've asked them the reason for these shots and they have not been able to provide me with an explanation. They were very insisting that it had to be exactly two weeks after his surgery. I had neutered my other two cats a few months prior at a different vet, and did not have to do any shots or follow up afterward.

I want to be the best pet owner I can be, however, money is really a problem right now. If the shots are necessary, of course, I will bring my pet in for them. The problem is this vet has not been entirely truthful/ transparent in the past and I am worried that these shots are just a cash grab, especially as they were not able to provide an explanation as to what they are for.

Is getting another round of shots after neutering standard procedure? If anyone has any experience with this or any other info, please let me know. I am really struggling with what to do here as I do not want to be a negligent pet owner, but I'm also not in a position to spend money unless it is absolutely needed. I live in Canada if it makes a difference.

I would be very thankful for any advice.
