Should I teach my 1 year crate trained dog to sleep in a bed?

I currently have a one year old dog and we have him crate trained. The thing is, he always has to be taken out right before bed, and even then he whines to be let out at least one more time. This has been going on the whole time, but my parents insist that’s this is the way to go.

However, whenever he has a night where he sleeps either with the crate opened or on a carpet, he never whines. Now he may go to my parents room and wake them up, but most of the time he sleeps the entire time or just bothers me. I have found this to be a far more favorable option. If my parents just close their bedroom door, he would have to come to me, and I don’t mind that. However, my parents won’t budge on it. Even if it makes our boy happier, even if it means they get a better nights sleep so long as they close the door, they still want him in his crate and have it closed.

What do I do in this situation?
