Recently I got 2 female Mongolian gerbils and I separated them in 2 different cages in fear of them fighting. Today I wanted to see what would happen if I put them together so I did. They started off sniffing each other but after about 10 seconds the bigger albino one(Karen) started to what it looked like attack the smaller brown one(Sheila). I tried separated them and put them in their separate cages and in the process got bit pretty hard by Karen, the hardest she has ever bit me and it drew blood. I’m pretty sure that they were fighting but I’m not sure and I looked it up and I’m still not sure. Neither seem to be hurt but I’m concerned of what would have happened if I didn’t separate them. Are they fighting or are they just playing and if they are fighting is there a way for me to get them to like each other? My main goal is to try to get them to live in the same cage together because Gerbils are social and like to be with another, or so I’ve heard... thanks in advance.
