After losing our kitty to lymphoma last year, we are considering adding a new cat to our home sometime this year.
We have 3 adult cats. 2 of them were introduced several years ago to our adult cat household (all females) and it was really tough! It took 6 months and a visit from a cat behaviorist, but now all the cats live together peacefully. The cat that disliked the change the most is the one who passed, so we are hoping to have an easier time this time.
We love adopting adult cats because they’ve settled into their personality and they are often most in need of homes. But many are suggesting to us to get a kitten instead, because it might be easier for our 3 adults to accept a new kitten. But I feel bad adopting a kitten when so many young adults need homes.
Does anyone have experience with this and can recommend if a kitten or a cat might be better? Does it matter? We are thinking about a male this time since maybe our females would accept a male easier.
Thank you!
